Between vampires and vases

Two recent projects for Art 100, the first being that vampire horror one that I had a preview of in the last post.

Recap: We had to draw a hallway in the art building and then make it “surreal”. I don’t think that way, so my friend helped me out by coming up with a theme. I was going to have the dude there to begin with, but it all turned into this weird, horrific Halloween thingie.

Hallway editing pre

I’m finally excited to be doing a project for Art 100. I think it’s ’cause I get to use my imagination and have fun and go wild.

This assignment was to draw a hallway in the art building and then make it into a surreal scene. I’m not much into surrealism, so really all I did was borrow the shape of the hall and then have my fun with it. With Halloween coming up, my friend suggested the theme of “vampires and creepy stuff”.

Graphite is also very shiny, so I had to burn the right side to make it more even.

Screentoneplosion, the finale

So here it is!

Screentoneplosion

I noticed that I used more broad/larger patterns, as opposed to most people in the class who used very tedious patterns…and lots of them. I dunno.

Screentoneplosion preview

Just a preview of what I’m working on for 2D Design. The assignment is 10 5″x8″ rectangles, using shapes and patterns and…yeah. It’d take a while to explain.

Yes, my mastery of photography is amazing. X3

To the sweetest girl I know

A graphic I made for this place. It’s really just me playing around with new fonts and stuff.

Within limits

The second real project we had to do for Art 102 was with shapes (finally!) But there was a hitch.

1.) Only four values allowed: Black, two greys, and white.
2.) Six positive shapes.
3.) Only ten 90-degree angles allowed.
4.) I totally forgot the last one.

During my thumbnail sketching, I ended up flaking out and doing this:

Thumbnailing

(Text says: “RAWR I AM A THUMBNAIL. With a new haircut! Sorry Blaine…”)

Required to do four pieces. Here’s what I came up with:

I’d like to present what inspired the title for this journal:

The other class

There’s Art 102 – aka, 2D Design. And then there’s Art 100, aka, Drawing I. Or…is that right? I haven’t been given a straight answer and it confuses me. Ah well.

Drawing I is what you think it is. But to me, it translates to being a freshman in high school all over again as I re-learn things I was taught when I was fourteen. However, the difference between fourteen-year-old Kat and eighteen-year-old Kat, besides three inches and shorter hair, is that I get really frustrated this time around.

What happens is that I do the assignments but do more. So then the prof gets annoyed that I do too much. And then she tells me that she doesn’t mind me doing it. I am so confused. Bah. Just need to wade through the semester.

Strangely, I don’t have many pictures of my work for this class. I wonder why.

It’s line, gaiz

2D Design is perhaps definitely my favorite class. Not only is it filled with entertaining people, but it also has the coolest professor ever – Blaine.

I have the class on Tuesday and Thursday nights, from 6 to 8:40. At first, it was a bit rough to adapt, which caused doodles such as these:

Its-Line-Gaiz

(L to R: Blaine, Lindsey, myself.)

Alright then, on to actual work: Our first assignment was “line”. Basically we had to make interesting pieces using just line. Yes, curves would work. Unfortunately, mine came out more as shapes, but if you stretch it…and…yeah…

Hello world!

The introduction post is called “Hello world!”

Honestly, this is all I can think of:

Joel: Alright, the right lower manuel connects to the visidual column, the visidual colum connects to the newton valve, the newton valve connects to the spasmodic prosphiscator and that’s what make you proculate. Them ‘bots them ‘bots them, dry ‘bots, them ‘bots them ‘bots them, dry ‘bots, them ‘bots them ‘bots them, dry ‘bots, now hear the pan unload. Well, I’m all of white pieces, that must be it.

*thonk*
Crow: Maaaaaah! Waaaaaah!
Joel: That’s not right…*thonk*
Crow:  What! Ow! Hey, that hurt! Woah hey, hello world!
Joel: Hey, welcome to the Satellite of Love. I’m gonna call you Crow.
Crow: Why Crow?
Joel: Well, Crow stands for “Cybernatic Remotely Operated Woman”

Crow: Woah, wait a minute! I’m a woman? Hear me roar guys!

Okay, that’s enough for now.
